A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE TALENT, POISE, AND DILIGENCE OF MEGAN TYLER PINCKNEY AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING CROWNED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA USA FOR 2013.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the lovely Megan Tyler Pinckney was named the 2013 Miss South Carolina USA in North Charleston on November 17, 2012; and

Whereas, a native of Charleston, she is the twenty-one-year-old daughter of Dr. Sabrina Pinckney and a graduate of Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston; and

Whereas, her career in pageants was rewarded in 2010 when she was crowned Miss South Carolina Teen USA, and she was a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Service Award in 2011; and

Whereas, Ms. Pinckney is currently a senior at the University of South Carolina studying fashion merchandising, and she has been named to the dean's list for the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management; and

Whereas, when she completes her degree, she plans to become a buyer for a high-end department store and would love to own her own boutique, to build a lifestyle brand, and perhaps even to become the editor of a magazine; and

Whereas, a member of the National Retail Federation, she has served as an intern to the Sherri Hill fashion team, accompanying the team to markets and New York Fashion Week. She had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy, attaining knowledge of the fabulous food and beautiful fashion indigenous to Italian culture; and

Whereas, using her title as a platform, she plans to focus primarily on elementary schools students throughout the Palmetto State with the program that she created, "Karacter Begins With K," to instill character-building traits, such as self-esteem, self-discipline, etiquette, leadership skills, and social skills; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives appreciate the talent, poise, intelligence, and beauty that enabled Megan Pinckney to capture the 2013 Miss South Carolina USA crown and wish her well as she travels to the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete for the title of Miss USA on June 16, 2013. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the talent, poise, and diligence of Megan Tyler Pinckney and congratulate her for being crowned Miss South Carolina USA for 2013.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Megan Tyler Pinckney.
