A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HARTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL WINTER GUARD, ITS DIRECTOR OF BANDS, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION WINTER ENSEMBLE CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Hartsville High School winter guard took top honors at the state competition held at Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville on March 23, 2013; and

Whereas, because the Hartsville percussion band also took a state title, the victory was all the sweeter and doubly so since this year marked the first time since 2002 that Hartsville has had competition groups in these divisions; and

Whereas, the winter guard and percussion trophies are the first state titles of any kind won by a Hartsville High School band program; and

Whereas, the Hartsville winter guard, an indoor performing activity, started practicing in January two days a week and competed in the novice division with their show routine called Rain, choreographed to the song "Rain" by Priscilla Ahn; and

Whereas, members of the winter guard include Ashleigh Briske, Zoey Hewell, Kayla Newsome, Kristen Chukes, Taylor Windham, Dominique Hicks, Miranda Davis, Jaime Lester, and Hollee Hardwick; and

Whereas, in a field that demands the use of colorful patterns and intricate drills and body movement, these performers used movement training and equipment skills on flags to create award-winning effects through tireless practices and drills; and

Whereas, Director of Bands Lance Stockton, in his second year at Hartsville, and Assistant Director Marlin Ketter capitalized on their own ability and training to hone the Hartsville winter guard into a championship program and teach these performers lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the recognition that the members of the Hartsville High School winter guard have brought to their school and their community and looks to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hartsville High School winter guard, its director of bands, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the South Carolina Band Directors Association Winter Ensemble Class AAA State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Charles E. Burry, Jr., and Director of Bands Lance Stockton.
