VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CRESCENT HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON CAPTURING THE 2013 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, fully prepared for the challenge, the Crescent High School "Lady Tigers" softball team crowned its splendid seasonal record by capturing the 2013 Class AA State Championship title, defeating Waccamaw 8-1 on May 15, 2013, in a sweep of the title series; and
Whereas, the Lady Tigers, delighting their fans with such an inspiring finale to a fine 24-5 season, pounded out twelve hits in a close-out game against Waccamaw, in the process avenging a 2010 loss to the Warriors in the state finals of that year; and
Whereas, excitement over this championship victory was especially intense because it made school history, marking Crescent's nineteenth state-title win in softball under Coach Gary Adams, a national record; and
Whereas, since the 1980 season, Coach Adams and the fabulous Lady Tigers have missed out on playing in the finals just eight times; and
Whereas, making the win even more praiseworthy, Crescent won the crown with a young team boasting only four seniors--Brittany Hoskins, Shaney Spires, Bree Newton, and Jessica Sutherland--but they are seniors who have served as guiding lights to their younger team members, enabling the Lady Tigers to produce a team effort "whole" greater than the sum of their parts; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands skill, quickness, and teamwork, Coach Gary Adams capitalized on his own athletic ability and training to mold a championship team and teach his athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the diamond; and
Whereas, the Crescent High School softball players have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and their many admirers, including the members of the House of Representatives, look to hear of their continued accomplishments. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Crescent High School softball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them on capturing the 2013 Class AA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Devon Smith and Coach Gary Adams of Crescent High School.
