A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE W. WYMAN KING ACADEMY VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the W. Wyman King Academy varsity baseball team of Lexington County captured the top honors at the state playoffs on May 14, 2013; and

Whereas, to the delight of their fans, the King Academy Knights defeated the Patrick Henry Academy Patriots in the first game of the best two out of three on Monday, May 13, 2013, by a score of 4-2; and

Whereas, in the second game on their home field, the Knights finished the series with an astounding 13-3 victory over the Patriots to take the team's third state championship title; and

Whereas, the King Academy baseball team posted a 17-9 record for the season which ended in the triple trophy for the Knights; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands skill, strength, and strategy, Head Coach Zach Matthews and assistant coaches Michael Kinard and Nick Long capitalized on their own athletic skill and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes valuable life lessons both on and off the diamond; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the King Academy baseball players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the seasons ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the W. Wyman King Academy varsity baseball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2013 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title.
