A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR RON CLAMP, STONE CARVER OF MEMORIAL DESIGN IN PELION, FOR HIS MASTERFUL WORK IN ENGRAVING THE GRANITE MONUMENTS COMMEMORATING THE HISTORY OF MANKIND AT THE MUSEUM OF HISTORY IN GRANITE, LOCATED IN FELICITY, CALIFORNIA.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that stone carver extraordinaire Ron Clamp of Memorial Design in Pelion added another masterwork to his portfolio when he engraved the granite monuments commemorating the history of mankind at the Museum of History in Granite, located in Felicity, California; and

Whereas, a new book detailing the story of the museum, History of Humanity: Engraved in Granite, Volume 1, by Jacques-Andre Istel (2011), contains color photographs of the one hundred eight granite panels that compose the eight monuments depicting human achievements down through the ages. The book is a fitting tribute not only to the Museum of History in Granite but also to Mr. Clamp's stone artistry; and

Whereas, each monument is one hundred feet long and designed by structural engineers to endure four thousand years. During a monument's construction, 1,960 cubic feet of 3,000 psi concrete is poured over 5,945 pounds of knitted steel installed in a three-foot deep trench. The monument is faced with 60 panels of Missouri red granite, each weighing 477 pounds, and two triangular granite end pieces, each weighing 351 pounds. Ron Clamp engraves historic text, names, and family panels deep into the granite; and

Whereas, the third generation of Clamps to work in the monument industry, Ron Clamp has more than twenty-eight years of experience in sandblasting monuments, creating architectural signage, and building and designing war memorials of all sizes, as well as custom stone-art projects. In addition, he has individually trained multitudes of students in the art of shape carving; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting Ron Clamp for the stone artistry that has won him such respect, as exemplified in his work with the Museum of History in Granite, and the members wish this eminent artist and son of South Carolina much continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Ron Clamp, stone carver of Memorial Design in Pelion, for his masterful work in engraving the granite monuments commemorating the history of mankind at the Museum of History in Granite, located in Felicity, California.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Ron Clamp.
