A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MAUDE STYLES NIX OF TRAVELERS REST ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Maude Styles Nix of Travelers Rest celebrated her one hundredth birthday on May 28, 2013; and

Whereas, born the daughter of Robert C. and Birdie Ayers Hice in Robinsville, North Carolina, Maude Styles Nix came into this world on May 28, 1913, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, when young Maude was about two years of age, her family moved to Tigerville. When she was five or six, they moved to Greer, where the family attended Fairview Baptist Church and Maude accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. Later transferring with her family to First Baptist Church of Greer, this woman of faith, as she grew up, began to discover the abundant grace and love of God that has supported her throughout her many years of walking with Him; and

Whereas, in 1931, she met Roy Styles of Travelers Rest, who became her beloved husband and the father of their four delightful children, Sarah, Shirley, Dorothy, and Roy Lee. A music lover like Maude, Roy was a member of Enoree Baptist Church in his home town, and Maude joined him in worship at Enoree, where the family faithfully served the Lord. Maude served there as a choir member, member of various committees, and a children's Sunday School teacher for sixty-two years, and she remains a strong encourager to the saints there; and

Whereas, Maude lost her dear Roy in 1962, but God blessed her with another fine husband, Clyde Nix, who went home to be with the Lord in 1970; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Maude Styles Nix of Travelers Rest on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her much happiness and a joyous birthday celebration.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Maude Styles Nix.
