A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JEREMY WILLIAM ALLEN FOR AN OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC CAREER AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON HIS GRADUATION FROM CLEMSON UNIVERSITY IN 2013.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Jeremy William Allen of Pickens County has successfully completed his course of studies at Clemson University with plans to embark on a career in education in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, born on October 8, 1990, Jeremy Allen is the younger of two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Allen, Sr., of Clemson; and

Whereas, he attended Fort Hill Presbyterian Day School, the old Morrison Elementary School, R. C. Edwards Middle School, and D. W. Daniel High School in Central, graduating with honors in 2009; and

Whereas, an active member of Mount Zion Methodist Church in Central, he played sports in local recreation and YMCA programs and was active in Cub Scouts from Tiger Cubs to Webolos; and

Whereas, he served as a member of the Daniel High Student Council and The Beta Club and as an officer of the Interact Club, sponsored by the Clemson Rotary Club, and he worked on countless service projects with all three organizations; and

Whereas, voted as senior class vice president by his classmates for the Class of 2009, he was selected by the Daniel High faculty to attend Palmetto Boys' State as a delegate in 2008; and

Whereas, from a young age, Jeremy enjoyed explaining how a toy worked to a smaller child and adapting the environment to include his blind cousin, who was six years younger, in the activities of the other grandchildren. These interests became the spark for his growing desire to follow his mother, a secondary science teacher, and his grandfather, a Clemson University professor of chemistry, and to pursue a career in education; and

Whereas, he was awarded early acceptance to Clemson University, the only school he applied to, and chose a major of elementary education; and

Whereas, as a student there, he worked part-time at Helping Hands, a local group foster home where he served as a house parent working with emotionally and physically-challenged children ages one to thirteen, and part-time as an assistant at the Clemson University Foundation; and

Whereas, Jeremy took the opportunity to study abroad the summer before his senior year, enjoying six weeks in Córdoba, Argentina, and taking classes in Spanish at the Universidad Blas Pascal; and

Whereas, his last semester, he was assigned to a third-grade science and math classroom at Chastain Road Elementary School in Liberty; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the standard of excellence that Jeremy Allen has set, and the members wish him a long and rewarding career in elementary education in our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jeremy William Allen for an outstanding academic career and congratulate him upon his graduation from Clemson University in 2013.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Jeremy William Allen.
