A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HUNTER-KINARD-TYLER HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE CLASS A DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School football team of Orangeburg County took top honors at the state competition in Charlie W. Johnson Stadium at Benedict College in Columbia on November 29, 2013; and

Whereas, to the delight of their fans, the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans defeated Timmonsville High School to bring home the state trophy; and

Whereas, the Trojans dominated the gridiron in a 26-8 victory against the Timmonsville Whirlwinds, rushing and pounding their way to win the first state championship in Hunter-Kinard-Tyler school's history; and

Whereas, running 213 yards and adding four touchdowns to the scoreboard, junior tailback Jarius Jenkins delivered the crushing offensive blows in the final game. He surpassed the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season and finished the year with 26 rushing touchdowns; and

Whereas, the powerful Trojan defense forced five turnovers against Timmonsville, two on interceptions by Shyheim Gilmore; and

Whereas, after struggling to field enough players to complete a preseason practice, the Trojans finished the season with a school record of 12-2, and in the last two seasons they compiled a 21-7 overall record, 5-1 in the postseason; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, expertise, and determination, Head Coach Dann Holland and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School football team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season, and congratulate them for winning the Class A Division II State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Ernest Holiday and Coach Dann Holland.
