TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE W. WYMAN KING ACADEMY VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS EIGHT MAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the King Academy varsity football team of Saluda County took top honors at the state competition on November 22, 2013; and
Whereas, to the delight of their fans and the disappointment of their rivals, the King Academy Knights defeated the Francis Hugh Wardlaw Academy Patriots decisively with a score of 58-20 to take home the championship trophy; and
Whereas, the Knights' quarterback Alex Berry rushed the ball eighteen times for 194 yards and a touchdown, and he completed eight out of ten passes for 89 yards and another touchdown; and
Whereas, named Offensive Player of the Game, Price Carpenter posted 153 yards on twelve rushes and scored one touchdown, and he caught three receptions for forty-eight yards and a touchdown; and
Whereas, teammate Patrick Corley was named Defensive Player of the Game, maintaining his statewide lead for tackles with twenty primary and five assisted tackles in the final game for the title; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, expertise, and determination, Head Coach Zach Matthews and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training, and the Christian principles upon which King was founded to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the King Academy football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the W. Wyman King Academy varsity football team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2013 South Carolina Independent School Association Class Eight Man State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Dennis Gibson and Coach Zach Matthews.
