A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND NINA SRIVASTAVA OF SPARTANBURG FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED A 2014 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD DISTINGUISHED FINALIST.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Nina Srivastava of Spartanburg has been selected a 2014 Prudential Spirit of Community Award Distinguished Finalist; and

Whereas, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, represents the United States' largest youth-recognition program based solely on volunteer service; and

Whereas, the program judges recognize Distinguished Finalists for their impressive community service activities and present each of the winners with an engraved bronze medallion. In receiving this award, the Spartanburg Day School senior has achieved national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service; and

Whereas, seventeen-year-old Nina was chosen for her leadership role as president of her high school girls' service organization, ASTRA. Through ASTRA, she has raised sixty-nine thousand dollars over the past two years by coordinating an annual 5K and one-mile "Fun Run." Having organized and seen brought to fruition all aspects of the event, including recruiting and supervising sixty volunteers and securing sponsorships, she now has the satisfaction of knowing that ASTRA donated the event's earnings to Big Brothers Big Sisters and the SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition; and

Whereas, Nina is also heavily involved in tutoring and mentoring schoolchildren in the Spartanburg community; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives recognizes that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Nina Srivastava who use their talents and resources to serve others. The members are grateful for Nina's sacrificial contributions to her community and look with interest to hear of her continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Nina Srivastava of Spartanburg for her outstanding community service and congratulate her upon being named a 2014 Prudential Spirit of Community Award Distinguished Finalist.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Nina Srivastava.
