A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR D. GLENN MCFADDEN OF FORT LAWN, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF COMPORIUM, ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST RESPECTED AND SUCCESSFUL COMMUNICATIONS COMPANIES, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FORTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives has learned that D. Glenn McFadden of Fort Lawn, Chief Operating Officer of Comporium, will begin a well-deserved retirement from Comporium on April 30, 2014; and

Whereas, Comporium, which is headquartered in Rock Hill, is a diversified communications company providing voice, video, data, wireless, and security services at the retail level, as well as providing security monitoring and directory publishing for its industry customers; and

Whereas, reared with hard work on the Fort Lawn farm of his father, David Wallace McFadden, a man of strong ideals and principles who greatly influenced his son, young Glenn McFadden plowed fields with a mule, picked cotton, and during his college summers, he worked in construction; and

Whereas, in May of 1972, Mr. McFadden earned a business degree from the University of South Carolina, and that August, he married his Lewisville High School sweetheart, Jo Ann Brannen; and

Whereas, in the fall of 1972, he became a salesman with the Rock Hill Telephone Company, which the Barnes family purchased in 1912, and it developed into a multifaceted business, which as the present day Comporium, now provides local telephone, long distance, wireless, digital video, cable television, Internet, security, and media services; and

Whereas, from his beginnings in sales, Glenn McFadden has taken a journey that spanned five decades with the company. Although he left the company twice during his career for brief periods, he rapidly advanced, becoming an executive vice president in 2004 and the chief operating officer in 2008. He has balanced the needs of employees with the company's best interests in a uniquely sensible, honest, and firm style of leadership, making him one of our state's foremost business leaders; and

Whereas, continuing to give back to his community, he led the chambers of commerce in Lancaster and York counties, served on various economic development boards, and helped the University South Carolina-Lancaster and Clinton College to grow, volunteering countless hours to improve the quality of life for citizens in Lancaster and York counties; and

Whereas, an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and hiker, he went to British Columbia, Canada, fifteen years ago hunting for moose when he found himself suddenly engulfed in a white out and lost contact with his guide. It was there he realized he knew the secret of life: his relationship with God, the people he loves, and his health, food and shelter; and

Whereas, a natural story teller, he paints a powerful picture in his oft-told, zestful stories, and also expresses his creativity in the hobby of carving birds, some of which have won world championships, and have a value well into the thousands of dollars; and

Whereas, Glenn McFadden is a man who above all loves and values his family and in retirement he now will have more time to spend with his wife, daughters Melanie and Amanda, and four grandsons; and

Whereas, although he plans to continue to serve on the state's Department of Natural Resources board, which appeals to his outdoor passion and intellectual curiosity, only one thing is certain for him: he first plans to pray in order to learn what God has next for him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor D. Glenn McFadden of Fort Lawn, Chief Operating Officer of Comporium, one of South Carolina's most respected and successful communications companies, upon the occasion of his retirement after forty years of outstanding service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. McFadden.
