A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE BLUE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL HONORS MEN'S CHOIR, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2014 CLASS AAA STATE CHORAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Blue Ridge High School Honors Men's Choir of Greenville County took top honors at the state competition on Tuesday, March 25, 2014; and

Whereas, before the judges and the audience, the Blue Ridge Honors Men's Choir soared over the second place Seneca High School Honors Women's Chorus and the third place Seneca High School Honors Chorale; and

Whereas, the songs performed by the choir that landed Blue Ridge the trophy were "Prayer of the Children" by Kurt Bestor and "Noel" by Todd Smith; and

Whereas, before three adjudicators, nineteen AAA choirs from across the State presented their musical programs; and

Whereas, the featured soloists for the Blue Ridge High School Honors Men's Choir performance included Justin Gray, Garrett Gainey, Macullen Daniel, and Evan Hamlin; and

Whereas, consisting of twenty-two dedicated members, this year's Blue Ridge choir rehearsed in the mornings and afternoons from November through March, enabling them to capture the program's third state honor; and

Whereas, the Blue Ridge choral program includes not only the state championship Honors Men's Chorus, but the two-time state championship Honors Concert Choir, a chamber choir, and men's and women's a capella groups; and

Whereas, in the winning tradition of the school's choral program, the two-time Honors Concert Choir state champions have consistently received superiors in performance and sight reading and have placed many students in the South Carolina All-State chorus over the years; and

Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, practice, and talent, Choral Director Laura Morris and her skilled staff capitalized on their own musical ability and training to hone a championship choir and teach these musicians lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Blue Ridge High School choral singers have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Blue Ridge High School Honors Men's Choir, choral director, and school officials for an outstanding season, and congratulate them for winning the Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Reena Watson and Choral Director Laura G. Morris.
