A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ABBEVILLE COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR ITS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF ABBEVILLE COUNTY AND TO CONGRATULATE THE STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS FOR BEING CHOSEN AS THE 2013 EMS LARGE SYSTEM OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, with deep appreciation, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives honor, on behalf of all South Carolinians, the great service and sacrifice that South Carolina's first responders make for the safety and well being of our citizens; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Abbeville County Emergency Medical Services System (EMS) was named the 2013 EMS Large System of the Year at the South Carolina Emergency Care Symposium held in Myrtle Beach on March 8, 2014; and

Whereas, the symposium offers EMS providers across the Palmetto State the opportunity to come together and network with each other and learn from one another at the same time; and

Whereas, the award honors ambulance service which exemplifies outstanding professionalism and service to its community, including exceptional programs and results in training personnel; significant awareness by the community of the importance of the local EMS system and the professionalism of system employees; significant contributions to citizen awareness for injury prevention, EMS access, and EMS career opportunities; and

Whereas, the Abbeville County EMS competed against the other large EMS systems in the State which consist of more than twenty thousand people in the coverage area and responded to a minimum of two thousand calls in the previous year; and

Whereas, for more than two-and-a-half years, the emergency management director for Abbeville County, David Porter, has worked to build the best EMS system in the State; and

Whereas, Abbeville County EMS answered about three thousand five hundred calls in 2013; and

Whereas, the success of the system's community paramedic program and the pit crew cardiac-arrest management project received universal acclaim at the symposium and contributed to the Awards Committee's decision to select Abbeville County for the award; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Abbeville County EMS has brought to Abbeville County and the outstanding care they have consistently provided to its citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Abbeville County Emergency Medical Services for its dedicated service to the citizens of Abbeville County and congratulate the staff and administrators for being chosen as the 2013 EMS Large System of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to David Porter, Abbeville County emergency management director.
