A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2014 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Fort Mill High School boys varsity lacrosse team of York County took top honors at the state competition at White Knoll High School in Lexington on Monday, April 21, 2014; and

Whereas, when the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets faced off against Wando High School, they delighted their fans by defeating their opponents 15-13 to capture the 2014 state lacrosse championship; and

Whereas, although Fort Mill had beaten Wando's Warriors earlier in the regular season 14-9, Wando posted the first goal of the game and traded goals with the Yellow Jackets until three goals from Fort Mill's senior Mitch Russell in the first quarter and one each from junior Matt Somjak and teammate Colin Crutchfield gave them the lead going into the second quarter; and

Whereas, Fort Mill's goalie Kyle Young helped his teammates slow down the Warrior's attack in the second quarter with several key saves, which gave the Yellow Jackets' defense some needed energy; and

Whereas, Wando began the second half by tying the score 10-10 with five unanswered goals, and after junior Yellow Jacket Tyler Lozinski scored his second goal of the game eighteen seconds later, the teams traded goals until Fort Mill shot off three straight goals to take a 14-11 lead at the end of the third quarter; and

Whereas, in spite of the Warriors' efforts to invade the crease with more goals in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets held on to the lead and hoisted the state trophy with a final score of 15-13; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands quickness and agility, strategy and strength, Head Coach Steve Nadolski and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to hone a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life, both on and off the field; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Fort Mill lacrosse players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Fort Mill High School boys varsity lacrosse team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season, and congratulate them for winning the 2014 South Carolina Class AAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal M. Dee Christopher and Coach Steve Nadolski.
