A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE GERTRUDE YOUMANS BROWN OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Gertrude Youmans Brown of Georgetown County will celebrate her eighty-fifth birthday surrounded by her family and friends; and

Whereas, born in Jasper County on June 30, 1929, in the third decade of the twentieth century, she has witnessed many remarkable social changes, extraordinary technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, the daughter of Lille Mae Horton and Jesse Youmans, Gertrude Youmans was born the second of their five children and her adopted sister; and

Whereas, she moved to Georgetown at an early age and has spent the rest of her life there; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Harold Brown, she reared three fine children: Ms. Harold Jean Brown; the late Harold Brown, Jr.; and the late Dexter Brown; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brown has been a devoted housewife, and her husband describes her employment as a nurse's aide, a case worker with Waccamaw Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and a school crossing guard as her hobbies; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, she remains active with the eight o'clock Sunday School Class and Usher Board Number 1, and her favorite passage in the Bible is the Psalm 37, which has taught her to trust in the Lord, to delight and rest in the Lord, and to commit her way to the Lord; and

Whereas, she enjoys cooking and reading, and she plans to continue trusting in the Lord, grateful that, after all she has been through, she still has joy; and

Whereas, not only a steadfast example to all those around her, she also remains a passionate advocate for her church and her community; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her eighty-fifth birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
