A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-195, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO SCHOOL BUS SAFETY STANDARDS, TO PROVIDE THAT MOTOR COACHES ARE EXEMPT FROM THE REQUIRED STANDARDS WHEN OWNED AND OPERATED BY A SCHOOL OR A SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-5-195 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"(F)    Motor coaches purchased by school districts or by organizations associated with particular schools that are owned and operated by a school or a school district are exempt from this section."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
