A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SANDRA W. HAYNES ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO THANK HER FOR HER MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF NURSING, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH FULFILLMENT AND ENJOYMENT IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, for more than forty years, the medical profession has enjoyed the professional knowledge, skill, and experience of Sandra W. Haynes, RN, and on May 10, 2013, this dedicated nurse will begin a well-deserved retirement; and

Whereas, Sandra Haynes, the firstborn of John K. Whitney and Naomi Fields' three daughters, attended Burke High School and obtained her license as a cosmetologist after graduating with an apprenticeship in cosmetology; and

Whereas, because she had always admired her mother's profession as a nurse, the young Sandra earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse from Roper's Practical Nursing School and began her career in nursing at Charleston's Roper Hospital. Later, she earned a degree at Baptist College in Charleston to become a registered nurse; and

Whereas, Ms. Haynes has worked in many areas of nursing over her career, but she most enjoys the challenge of caring for patients in the emergency room; and

Whereas, she has not gone unappreciated. As a testimony to their high respect for Nurse Haynes, her peers honored her as RN of the Year, and WCSC-TV's legendary host Charlie Hall awarded her the original Live 5 pin in commemoration of this recognition; and

Whereas, believing that, like the body, the spirit of man needs careful nurturing, Sandra Haynes was baptized at Holy Cross Church and attended Nichols Chapel AME Church, where she and Alonzo Haynes, her dear husband, were married; and

Whereas, four delightful children were born to the couple, Michael, Karen, Sheryl, and Terri, who have given their parents the joy of nine charming grandchildren; and

Whereas, presently, this woman of faith calls Ebenezer AME Church her spiritual home. There, she is a member of the Women's Missionary Society, Flossie Women's Unit, and the Stewardess Board; and

Whereas, appreciative of Sandra Haynes' long dedication to the nursing profession, the House extends grateful thanks for her service to the citizens of this great State, and the members trust that during her retirement she will find herself more frequently able to indulge in her favorite pastimes of reading, traveling, and helping others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Sandra W. Haynes on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for her more than forty years of dedicated service in the field of nursing, and extend best wishes for much fulfillment and enjoyment in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sandra W. Haynes.
