Whereas, the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. pays tribute to the pride, sacrifice, and service of America's veterans. In addition, the parade will be televised in more than eighty million homes across the country and will have live coverage to service members around the world via the Pentagon Channel; and
Whereas, this major parade event is the latest in a series of achievements for the band this year. Among other recognitions, the band was named grand champion at a Shelby High School marching band competition. Gaffney returned home with several first-place trophies and a cash award of five hundred dollars for its performance of this year's show, Un Noche En Espana, which means "A Night in Spain"; and
Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, practice, and stamina, Director Billy Asis of the Gaffney High School Band of Gold capitalized on his own musical talent and training to build an outstanding band program and teach these students lessons that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives; and
