THE COMMITTEE ON

INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4322) to request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of Sims Street in the City of Georgetown from its intersection with North Congdon Street, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

JIMMY C. BALES for Committee.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SIMS STREET IN THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH NORTH CONGDON STREET TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH NORTH MERRIMAN ROAD "MARINE CORPORAL NATHANIEL JACKSON MEMORIAL STREET" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS STREET THAT CONTAIN THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Marine Corporal Nathaniel E. L. Jackson was born in 1947 and spent his childhood and young adult years along Sims Street in the City of Georgetown. His mother, Lillian Jackson, has resided on this street for over seventy years; and

Whereas, he graduated from high school in 1965 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1967; and

Whereas, on April 16, 1968, at the age of twenty-one, and while stationed in Quang Tri, South Vietnam, Corporal Jackson made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country; and

Whereas, he served with Charlie Company, 1st Battalian, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF with honor and distinction; and

Whereas, for his heroism and bravery Corporal Jackson was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to forever recognize Corporal Jackson's service to our State and nation by having Sims Street in the City of Georgetown named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of Sims Street in the City of Georgetown from its intersection with North Congdon Street to its intersection with North Merriman Road "Marine Corporal Nathaniel Jackson Memorial Street" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this street that contain this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
