A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE ALEX AND ISADORA WHITE OF CHARLESTON ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SIXTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF BLESSING AND FULFILLMENT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Alex and Isadora White of Charleston will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary on November 5, 2015; and

Whereas, there is no greater success in life than a marriage and family life that endure the test of time and grow stronger with each passing year; and

Whereas, the long-lasting love and support of a spouse is unmatched in its importance and cannot be overestimated; and

Whereas, Alex and Isadora White's commitment to one another over the past sixty years is worthy of honor and serves as an inspiration to both family and friends; and

Whereas, born in Awendaw on August 22, 1934, Alex White, son of Willis and Louisa White, graduated from Lang High School in 1954. The former Isadora Manigault was born in Charleston on January 7, 1934, to Richard and Emily Manigault. She is a 1953 graduate of Avery Industrial School; and

Whereas, Alex and Isadora's marriage ceremony was performed by the Reverend Glover, pastor of Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, on November 5, 1955. Just five days later, Alex enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was shipped to boot camp in Bainbridge, Maryland, while Isadora moved to Awendaw; and

Whereas, after boot camp, Alex and Isadora were stationed in New London, Connecticut, for two years, after which they returned to Charleston, where Isadora attended Roper Nursing School and Alex worked as a forklift mechanic for Lucas Equipment. In 1971, he retired from the Charleston Naval Base as a boilermaker technician. During his time in the U.S. Navy, Alex served two years of active duty, followed by service with the Naval Reserve at the Charleston Naval Base. All together, he dedicated thirteen years to military service; and

Whereas, as people of faith, Alex and Isadora accepted God's call to the ministry in 1965. Alex was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in 1970 at See Wee Baptist Church in Awendaw. That same year, he became pastor of First Baptist Church on James Island, and he is currently senior pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he has ministered for thirty-five years. A leader in his denomination, Reverend White is past president of the Charleston County Baptist Sunday School BTU Congress, which he served for five years. Sister Isadora White has been a Sunday School teacher for more than thirty-five years and serves as deaconess at the church; and

Whereas, Alex considers it one of the greatest triumphs of his life that he was able to persuade the lovely Isadora to become his wife. They are the proud parents of eight children, Alex, Jr., Valerie Ann, Jacqueline Elaine, David Emmanuel, Quintin Reginald, Alison Hope, Latanya Yvette, and Elizabeth Naomi; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the House of Representatives express their congratulations to these two special South Carolinians on reaching the milestone of their diamond wedding anniversary. Now, therefore,
