A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR FORESTBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL OF HORRY COUNTY FOR ITS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN EDUCATING STUDENTS AND TO CONGRATULATE THE ADMINISTRATORS, FACULTY, STUDENTS, AND PARENTS FOR BEING NAMED A NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Forestbrook Middle School was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education on September 29, 2015; and

Whereas, only five schools in the Palmetto State received this prestigious national award for the 2014-2015 school year, and three of the five schools were in Horry County; and

Whereas, the United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that three hundred thirty-five winners were recognized from across the country in 2015, two hundred eighty-five public schools and fifty private schools, all of which were recognized at a ceremony in Washington, D. C., in November; and

Whereas, National Blue Ribbon awards recognize schools in one of two categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools. Forestbrook Middle School was nominated as an Exemplary High Performing School, indicating it to be among the state's highest achieving schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests; and

Whereas, with a slogan of "Excellence, Every day, Everywhere," Forestbrook Middle School educates more than 1250 students in grades six through eight on its campus in Myrtle Beach, by maximizing the assets of a rigorous curriculum, innovative technology, and diverse opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom; and

Whereas, the school has been honored with the Palmetto Gold Award for overall academic achievement and closing the achievement gap; has been ranked #1 in Schools Like Us in the State of South Carolina; and was named a Palmetto's Finest in 2014; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in commending educators like those at Forestbrook Middle School who have given so tirelessly of their time and talents so that students in our State can become productive citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize and honor Forestbrook Middle School of Horry County for its outstanding achievements in educating students and congratulate the administrators, faculty, students, and parents for being named a National Blue Ribbon School.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to April Scott, Principal of Forestbrook Middle School.
