A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 1-11-790 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE STATE EMPLOYEE INSURANCE PROGRAM TO PROVIDE BENEFITS FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES RESULTING FROM AN ACT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 5, Chapter 11, Title 1 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 1-11-790.    The State Employee Insurance Program must provide benefits for medical expenses resulting from an act of domestic violence."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and first must be implemented in the 2017 State Employee Insurance Program.
