A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SAMUEL PATRICK SPROUSE, OWNER OF SPROUSE CUSTOM FURNITURE AND THE CHARLESTON WOODWORKING SCHOOL, ON HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, TO COMMEND HIS WORK IN TEACHING THE SPECIALIZED ART OF HANDCRAFTING FURNITURE FOR THE HOME AND MARINE LIVING, AND TO WISH HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Samuel Patrick Sprouse, Principal, Owner, and Lead Instructor for the Charleston Woodworking School in Charleston, South Carolina, is a native North Carolinian, born in Charlotte and raised in Asheboro; and

Whereas, inspired by his grandfather, Charlie Clyburn, Sam built an outdoor chapel at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd for his Eagle Scout project; and

Whereas, following high school, Sam graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, where he was a member of Sigma Chi, and

Whereas, while living in Denver with his new bride, Anne Nicole, he learned about a local woodworking club and became active in the organization; and

Whereas, soon afterwards, Sam continued his education at the prestigious Chippendale International School of Furniture in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. After graduating as "Student of the Year" in 2006, Sam gained valuable experience working for local woodworkers and specializing in marine woodworking; and

Whereas, in 2009, Sam opened Sprouse Custom Furniture in Charleston, constructing handcrafted specialized furniture for both the home and marine living; and

With a demand for fine furniture education in the south, Sam opened the Charleston Woodworking School and began teaching the specialized art of furniture making. The School, currently at 1040 Gardner Road in West Ashley, will relocate this summer to a brand new state-of-the-art facility being built at 2338 Ashley River Road; and

Whereas, beginning in the School's fifth year, the new facility will allow more students to attend. The School is certified by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and accepts all Veteran's Administration benefits for continuing education; and

Whereas, Sam is also co-founder of the Charleston Wood Guild, made up of woodworking enthusiasts from around the Charleston area; and

Whereas, Sam and Anne Nicole are parents to Elizabeth and Samuel, and they attend St. Andrew's Church in Mt. Pleasant. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, congratulate Samuel Patrick Sprouse, owner of Sprouse Custom Furniture and the Charleston Woodworking School, on his accomplishments, commend his work in teaching the specialized art of handcrafting furniture for the home and marine living, and wish him every success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Samuel Patrick Sprouse.
