A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND PRESIDENT ABDEL FATTAH EL SISI OF EGYPT FOR STRIDES TOWARD HARMONIOUS INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS, AND HIS EFFORTS FIGHTING TERRORISM, AND TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR THE AMICABLE TRADE PARTNERSHIP EXPERIENCED BETWEEN OUR BEAUTIFUL STATE AND EGYPT.

Whereas, President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, born on November 19, 1954, came to power during a tumultuous time in Egyptian history. He was inaugurated as president on June 8, 2014; and

Whereas, during his time in office, he has pursued international amity, democracy, and a secure economy, at one time going so far as to accept only half of his pay in order to set an example of selflessness and charity for the people of Egypt; and

Whereas, after less than two years in office, President Sisi announced in February 2016, "From this place, under parliament's dome, the Egyptian people declare to the entire world that they have laid the foundation of a democratic system and rebuilt constitutional institutions"; and

Whereas, President Sisi has spent years working toward establishing stability in a troubled region of the world through diplomacy and economic growth. Fighting against extremism and the violent agenda being promoted by ISIS and other terrorist organizations, President Sisi and the Egyptian army have been active in launching anti-terrorist aerial attacks. In July 2016, Egyptian military helicopters assailed a camp of heavily armed terrorists, killing twenty-five and wounding fifteen. It is efforts such as these that help show extremist groups that their terrorism will not be tolerated; and

Whereas, as a friend of the nation of Egypt, the State of South Carolina honors President Sisi's exemplary leadership of his country and is pleased that he has spent much time promoting mutually beneficial trade partnerships between our two governments resulting annually in millions of dollars in trade . The House of Representatives takes great pleasure in anticipating further exchanges to the advantage of both our peoples in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend President Abdel Fattah el Sisi of Egypt for strides toward harmonious international relationships, and his efforts fighting terrorism, and express gratitude for the amicable trade partnership experienced between our beautiful State and Egypt.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to President Abdel Fattah el Sisi.
