A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR KING ABDALLAH II BIN AL-HUSSEIN OF JORDAN FOR ADVANCES TOWARD HARMONIOUS INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS, AND HIS EFFORTS IN FIGHTING TERRORISM, AND PROVIDING REFUGE TO DISPLACED ARAB CHRISTIANS AND OTHER PEOPLES WHO HAVE FLED THEIR COUNTRIES DUE TO GENOCIDAL ATTACKS PERPETRATED BY ISLAMIC STATE IN IRAQ AND SYRIA (ISIS), AND TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR AMICABLE TRADE PARTNERSHIPS EXPERIENCED BETWEEN OUR BEAUTIFUL STATE AND JORDAN.

Whereas, King Abdallah II bin Al-Hussein, born on January 30, 1962, assumed his constitutional powers as king of the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan on February 7, 1999. He is widely popular both locally and internationally for having maintained Jordan's stability despite overwhelming odds. He is well known for promoting peaceful tolerance. In 2016, he was named the most influential Muslim as a part of the publication created by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Amman, Jordan; and

Whereas, King Abdallah II has spent years working toward establishing stability in a turbulent region of the world through diplomacy and economic growth. In Jordan's capital city of Amman, almost one million refugees have found safe haven from various threats. Refugees from Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen have flocked to the shelter King Abdallah II has supplied to those in need. King Abdallah II has generously offered his country as an oasis to Arab Christians and others who have been displaced by Islamic State in Iraq and Syria(ISIS); and

Whereas, in addition to providing asylum to those in need, he has been actively fighting against extremism and the violent agenda being promoted by ISIS and other terrorist organizations. After a Jordanian airman was killed by ISIS, King Abdallah II, a trained fighter pilot, personally participated in air strikes against the shelters of the organization, effectively demonstrating that these acts of terrorism perpetrated by extremist factions will not be tolerated; and

Whereas, as a friend of the nation of Jordan, the State of South Carolina honors King Abdallah II's exemplary leadership of his country and is pleased that he has spent much time promoting mutually beneficial trade partnerships between our two governments, resulting annually in millions of dollars in trade. The House of Representatives takes great pleasure in anticipating further exchanges to the advantage of both of our peoples in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor King Abdallah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan for advances toward harmonious international relationships, and his efforts in fighting terrorism, and providing refuge to displaced Arab

Christians and other peoples who have fled their countries due to genocidal attacks perpetrated by ISIS, and express gratitude for amicable trade partnerships experienced between our beautiful State and Jordan.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to King Abdallah II bin Al-Hussein.
