A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JAMES L. "RABBIT" PINKNEY, A MANAGER AT THE SAVANNAH RIVER NUCLEAR SITE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN FORTY-ONE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that James Pinkney began a well-deserved retirement on February 28, 2017, after almost forty-two years of faithful service at the Savannah River Nuclear Site (SRNS), the last thirty-six of which have been as a highly-regarded manager; and

Whereas, born in Barnwell on March 31, 1952, Rabbit Pinkney was the youngest of nine children born to the late Louise Fredrick-Pinkney and Jake Pinkney, Sr., and he graduated from high school in Allendale County in 1972; and

Whereas, at the age of ten, he joined Union Missionary Baptist Church and became a deacon in 1976. Since 1986, he has served as chairman of the church's deacon board; and

Whereas, Mr. Pinkney began working at the Savannah River Plant under DuPont in 1975, and a year later he began working in the piping department and has served as a manager for thirty-six years; and

Whereas, while he was employed at the Savannah River Plant, Mr. Pinkney attended the Augusta Technical College Extension for four years; and

Whereas, for seventeen years, he served the citizens of Allendale County as a county councilman for District #3, and he was elected as the first African American to serve as chairman of the Allendale County Council, a post he served with distinction for five years; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife of forty-four years, Ernestine Burgess Pinkney, he reared three fine children: Detrius, Shante, and Louise. They have blessed their parents with the affection of a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also lovingly reared Tracey, Michael, and Eric as their own; and

Whereas, now in retirement, he has accepted the position as administrator of Allendale County, and he continues to operate Pinkney's Transportation, which he has owned and operated since 1992. He also plans to spend many happy hours of retirement traveling, fishing, and enjoying his family and friends; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of dedicated service that James Pinkney devoted to the Savannah River Nuclear Site and to the citizens of Allendale County and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
