A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE HAMMOND SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2018 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, supremely ready for the challenge, the Hammond School girls varsity basketball team drove past Cardinal Newman 42-31 to net the 2018 SCISA 3A State Championship, held on Saturday, February 24, 2018; and

Whereas, the Sumter Civic Center echoed with the cheers of exuberant Hammond fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a gratifying end to a fabulous season; and

Whereas, by the end of the title game, the Lady Skyhawks' many admirers were already looking with anticipation toward a repeat performance next year; and

Whereas, with infinite satisfaction, the Lady Skyhawks took home Hammond's eleventh title in girls basketball, its first such title since 1993, thus ending more than two decades of draught in that sport. It was also Hammond's 139th state championship overall; and

Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Head Coach Roshan Myers built his girls basketball program into championship caliber and trained his athletes not to settle for second best; and

Whereas, adding further glitter to a sparkling season, Trinity Johnson was named Region 1 3A Co-Player of the Year; Coach Roshan Myers was named Region 1 3A Co-Coach of the Year; and Ahlea Myers, Tyra Myers, and Morgan Walker were named Region 1 3A All-Region. In addition, Trinity Johnson and Ahlea Myers were tapped for the SCISA All-Tournament Team at the state level; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Lady Skyhawks have brought to their school and community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Hammond School girls varsity basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them on winning the 2018 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 3A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Chris Angel and Head Coach Roshan Myers.
