A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE EAST CLARENDON HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2018 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the East Clarendon High School girls basketball team took top honors at the state competition held at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Saturday, March 3, 2018; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Wolverines dominated Timmonsville 55-31; and

Whereas, making their first State championship appearance since 1971, the Wolverines finished the first quarter leading Timmonsville by more than twenty points; and

Whereas, eighth-grader Talaysia Cooper had a memorable performance with sixteen points at halftime and a total of eighteen points. Seniors Gracen Watts and Caitlin Timmons added thirteen and ten, respectively; and

Whereas, Head Coach Mike Lowder capitalized on his own experience and athletic ability to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the court; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the recognition that the East Clarendon High School players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their future success in the days to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the East Clarendon High School girls basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2018 South Carolina High School League Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jason Cook and Coach Mike Lowder.
