A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE MARK STEPHEN KELLEY, LOBBYIST AND FORMER COLLEAGUE IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MANY YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Mark Kelley for his significant contributions to the citizens of Horry County; and

Whereas, born in Buffalo, New York, on September 19, 1954, he is the son of Robert and Elenor Summerfelt Kelley and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1972, and attended Coastal Carolina College; and

Whereas, in the proud tradition of the Palmetto State, Mark Kelley served with distinction in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976; and

Whereas, he married his beloved wife, Lisa Murie Knauth, in 1992, and he is the proud father of four children: Kristofer, Nicolos, Elise, and Sean Michael; and

Whereas, from 1993 to 2002, Mr. Kelley served the citizens of Horry County's District 107 in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He served as the chairman of the Rules Committee and chairman of the Executive and Legislative Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee; and

Whereas, since 2002, he has been a partner in Kelley, McCain, and Smith Owens, LLC and he continued to represent Horry County passionately after leaving the General Assembly by serving as a lobbyist for the Grand Strand Business Association and continued when it became the Grand Strand Business Alliance. He also represented Coastal Carolina University as a lobbyist; and

Whereas, an active and faithful member of Salem Baptist Church in Aynor, he plans to spend many happy hours of retirement between South Carolina and New York, and he will continue to follow Tarheel basketball avidly; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Mark Kelley devoted to serving the citizens of Horry County in the General Assembly and as a lobbyist, and the members hope that he will spend many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Mark Stephen Kelley, lobbyist and former colleague in the General Assembly, upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of exemplary service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Mark Stephen Kelley.
