VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE CARDINAL NEWMAN WRESTLING TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR ANOTHER AMAZING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2018 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, in keeping with their winning tradition, the Cardinal Newman School wrestling team grabbed the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) State Championship title once again in 2018; and
Whereas, clearly a dynasty in this sport in their classification, the Cardinals soared to victory after overcoming the two teams that had beaten them earlier in the season, making it their ninth state title in ten years and their fifth straight championship; and
Whereas, Cardinal Newman finished the season with a 14-14 record and was ranked second in each of the SCMAT polls throughout the season; and
Whereas, at the 2018 finals held at Ben Lippen School on February 3, 2018, the Cards, with the support of their fans, who "Back the Bird," outscored Hammond School 44-34 to win the crown; and
Whereas, Cardinal match winners at the title event were Dyllan Gorrin in the 113 weight division, John Maddock at 120, Luke Petit at 132, Jose Gonzalez at 138, Tyrique Wise at 145, TJ Wise at 152, Andrew Morrison at 195, and Declan Carroll at 285; and
Whereas, using their own strong athletic skills and experience, Head Coach Bryan Bush and his assistant David McKee built yet another championship team that means to stay on top for years to come; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives applauds the hard work and determination that have brought such success to the Cardinal Newman wrestlers and wishes these fine athletes much continued success in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Cardinal Newman wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for another amazing season and congratulate them for winning the 2018 South Carolina Independent School Association State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jacqualine Kasprowski and Head Coach Bryan Bush.
