A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR KENDALL JOSEPH FROM ANDERSON COUNTY, VETERAN LINEBACKER FOR THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR HIS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HISTORIC SUCCESS OF THE CLEMSON TIGERS ON THE GRIDIRON.

Whereas, at an even six feet tall and weighing two hundred thirty pounds, Kendall Joseph provided the steady, steely performance for the middle of the Tigers' defense on the 2016 football field that helped to secure a national trophy draped in orange and purple; and

Whereas, born on November 19, 1995, Kendall led his high school to an 11-2 record and the third round of state playoffs in his senior year, and he posted 118 tackles, three tackles for loss; two interceptions; a recovered fumble; and blocked punt; and

Whereas, as a senior at Belton-Honea Path, he had 205 yards and six touchdowns on 47 carries. As an underclassman, he made 139 tackles, 13 for loss, and 2.5 sacks as a junior and 115 tackles, 15 for loss; two sacks; and one caused fumble as a sophomore; and

Whereas, Kendall shared his athletic talents with other sports, excelling as the three-time state weightlifting champion, and he played basketball and ran track as well; and

Whereas, Kendall's athletic feats drew the attention of college football recruiting analysists, placing him as the eighteenth ranked inside linebacker in the nation by ESPN and the seventeenth ranked player in South Carolina by 247Sports.com during his senior year at Belton-Honea Path High School. He also earned a prestigious selection to play in the Shrine Bowl; and

Whereas, Kendall ultimately joined the Clemson Tigers, where as a sophomore majoring in health science at Clemson he was a redshirt. In the 2015 season, he posted 11 tackles in 63 snaps over seven games with four quarterback pressures, and he posted standout performances against Wofford College, against the University of Miami, and in the Orange Bowl win over Oklahoma; and

Whereas, in Clemson's win at Auburn, the first game of the 2016 season, he posted a team-high 14 tackles to open the season, three of those tackles for a loss. His performance in that game earned him recognition as the ACC Linebacker of the Week; and

Whereas, in 2016, Kendall Joseph started in 15 games, becoming the second-leading tackler with 124 stops and tying for the team lead with 13.5 tackles for loss, all while adding 3.5 sacks and 16 quarterback pressures. He earned the defense's Most Improved Award; and

Whereas, during the course of his distinguished career at Clemson, he accumulated 135 career tackles in 993 snaps over 22 games; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly recognizes the substantial impact that Kendall Joseph made to the Tiger line during his career at Clemson University and his positive impact on college football in the Palmetto State, and the members wish him continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Kendall Joseph, veteran linebacker for Clemson University football team from Anderson County, and congratulate him for his significant contributions to the historic success of the Clemson Tigers on the gridiron.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Kendall Joseph.
