A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 50-9-740, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES YOUTH HUNTING DAYS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT YOUTH HUNTERS FIFTEEN YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LICENSED ADULT ON A YOUTH HUNTING DAY AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE LICENSE AND TAG REQUIREMENT IS WAIVED FOR A YOUTH HUNTER ON A YOUTH HUNTING DAY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 50-9-740(B) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 23 of 2007, is further amended to read:

"(B)    A person who is less than eighteen years of age may be a youth hunter. Youth hunters age fifteen and under who hunt on a statewide youth hunting day must be accompanied by a licensed adult who is at least twenty-one years of age. A licensed adult at least twenty-one years of age must accompany a youth hunter in the field and may not The adult may not harvest or attempt to harvest game during this special hunting event. A license requirement specified in this chapter is waived on a youth hunting day under this section for a youth hunter. A license or tag requirement pursuant to this chapter is waived for a youth hunter on a youth hunting day. A daily harvest limit remains the same as allowed during regular seasons for each species of game."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
