A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR GOOSE CREEK COUNCILMEMBER KIMO ESAREY FOR HIS TWENTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE ON THE GOOSE CREEK CITY COUNCIL AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS AS HE STEPS DOWN FROM HIS COUNCIL DUTIES.

Whereas, for two decades, Kimo Esarey has brought business acumen, wise counsel, and steady leadership to the City of Goose Creek as a member of its city council, to which he was first elected in 1998; and

Whereas, like so many of his fellow Goose Creek residents, Councilmember Esarey came to the Berkeley County community from another place, which in his case was southwest Virginia, where he was born and raised. Mr. Esarey also attended college in Virginia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in computer science and math at James Madison University; and

Whereas, his career at Westvaco brought Councilmember Esarey and his wife, Marti, to South Carolina. After retiring from Westvaco, he went on to become a Lowcountry leader in real estate; and

Whereas, the Esareys moved from Summerville to Crowfield Plantation in 1981. In regard to an important local debate in their new area, Kimo Esarey's feelings were expressed decidedly: "At first I thought Crowfield should become its own city. But after really studying the issue, I realized what a good deal it was to live in Goose Creek"; and

Whereas, after serving on the Parks and Playground Commission for six years, Mr. Esarey decided he wanted to continue making a difference by running for city council. His time on city council has allowed him to help Goose Creek continue its emergence as a growing, business-friendly city. It has been a time of great progress; and

Whereas, his accomplishments include the opening of the Recreation Center on the city's Municipal Center campus, a center that is poised to open a new addition in 2018; the 1999 Downtown Master Plan Charette; the construction of the city's fire stations and new headquarters station that opened in 2017; the creation and expansion of the city's hiker/biker trail system; the expansion of the city's baseball and softball fields at Felkel Field; and the expansion of the city's water system in the form of two new water tanks; and

Whereas, appreciative of the legacy of consistent commitment and excellence Kimo Esarey has bestowed on the people of South Carolina, particularly those of Goose Creek, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in wishing him well as he steps down from his duties. He carries with him the gratitude and good wishes of all his colleagues and constituents. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Goose Creek Councilmember Kimo Esarey for his twenty years of dedicated service on the Goose Creek City Council and extend best wishes in all his future endeavors as he steps down from his council duties.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Kimo Esarey.
