A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF JAMES JAMES "JIM" LEVENTIS OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were saddened to learn of the death of James James Leventis, affectionately known as Jim or JL, at the age of fifty-five on April 13, 2017; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on February 10, 1962, Jim was the son of Toula Prekezes Leventis and the late James Pete Leventis; and

Whereas, Jim graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1980 and the University of South Carolina in 1984. In 1988, he finished his education with a degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, Jim practiced law for over thirty years in Columbia, and he was a partner in the Leventis and Ransom Law Firm. Prior to opening his own law firm in Columbia, Jim was a law clerk for the late Honorable Sidney Floyd in Conway; and

Whereas, Jim was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Additionally, he was an avid Gamecock fan and loved riding his bike in Fort Jackson and visiting with his mom; and

Whereas, a devoted father, Jim was extremely proud of his three children, Sarah Glenn Leventis, James Pete Leventis, and Katie Hollis Leventis. The only thing more important to Jim than enjoying his children's participation in soccer, lacrosse, and Boy Scouts were his week long vacations with his children to far away places; and

Whereas, a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Jim lived life to the fullest. With his hearty laughter, Jim lit up every room he entered. He was always quick with a kind word or a compliment to anyone who was fortunate to know him; and

Whereas, Jim's bellowing, happy voice will be missed by all those who loved him; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the life and legacy of Jim Leventis and for the example of sacrifice and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of James James "Jim" Leventis of Richland County and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James James "Jim" Leventis.
