A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Bands of Wando High School FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2022 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE Marching CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that the members of the Bands of Wando High School of Charleston County captured the state title at the state competition held at Irmo High School on Saturday, November 5, 2022; and

Whereas, to the delight of their faithful fans, the Bands of Wando defeated a fine, competitive field of eleven bands from across the State to best the nearest competitor with a score of 95.45 and to garner the band's fourteenth consecutive state trophy, every year since 2005, breaking their own state record for marching band competition; and

Whereas, in the band program's fiftieth year, the participants continue to break records.  The Warriors of Wando scored at the top of all three categories: outstanding music performance, outstanding visual performance, and outstanding overall effect; and

Whereas, two weeks earlier in October, the bands placed second at the 2022 Orlando Bands of America (BOA) Regional Competition.  To date, Wando has three BOA Regional titles and made five BOA National finalist appearances; and

Whereas, the Warriors' show this year was entitled "Ascension" and signified the rise above all the obstacles facing our world since the COVID pandemic.  The show, a three-part work of performance art, explored the mystery of the unknown and the drive to explore, and the show featured the musical selections, "Rest" by Frank Ticheli, "Canyon" by Philip Glass, and "Survivor," arranged by Jay Bocook and Vince Oliver; and

Whereas, the Bands of Wando are under the direction of Bobby Lambert, Lanie Radecke, and Jeff Handel.  Michael Gray is the program coordinator for the Wando marching band, and Brian Winn is the director of the color guard; and

Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, practice, and artistic forté, Director Lambert and his talented staff capitalized on their own musical and artistic experience and training to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes life principles that will endure beyond the marching fields; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Bands of Wando have brought to their school and their community and look forward to following their continued accomplishments in the days to come.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Bands of Wando High School for a stellar season and congratulate them for winning the 2022 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Marching Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Interim Principal Kim Wilson and Director of Bands Bobby Lambert.
