A bill

 

TO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY ADDING SECTION 8-13-701 SO AS TO PROHIBIT A PUBLIC OFFICIAL AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF A PUBLIC OFFICIAL FROM RECEIVING ANY FINANCIAL GAIN RESULTING FROM ANY GOVERNMENTAL MATTER OR BUSINESS.

 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

 

SECTION 1.  Article 7, Chapter 13, Title 8 of the S.C. Code is amended by adding:

 

    Section 8-13-701.  In addition to the provisions in Section 8-13-700, a public official and each member of the public official's family, as defined in Section 8-13-100(15), is prohibited from receiving any financial gain resulting from any governmental matter or business. This includes, but is not limited to, a public official or member of the public official's family receiving a financial gain due to lobbying, consulting, or other type of contractual arrangement which would result in a financial gain.

 

SECTION 2.  This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
