A house RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE PALMETTO HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIVE CHEER TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A SUPERB SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON CAPTURING THE 2023 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, with precision and grace, the Palmetto High School competitive cheer team proved its tenacity and earned top honors at the 2023 Class AAA state competition, held at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Saturday, November 18, 2023; and

Whereas, exciting history was made that day: Palmetto High won the competitive cheer program's first state title since 2018; and

Whereas, determined to take home the coveted crown this year, the Lady Mustangs left it all on the mat. As a result, they bested defending state champion Belton-Honea Path by one point, 271-270. That invaluable single point was enough to nail the Class AAA title for Palmetto; and

Whereas, thanks to the first class leadership of Coach Jamie Newsome, the talented athletes of the Palmetto competitive cheer team showed out like the champions they are; and

Whereas, the Lady Mustangs were led all the way to the state title by their senior players, Mardi Rankin, Rebecca Wood, Isabelle McKee, Eathan Vaughn, and Presley Cole; and

Whereas, proud of the fine achievements of these young athletes, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in applauding the Palmetto High School competitive cheer team and in extending best wishes for much continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Palmetto High School competitive cheer team, coaches, and school officials for a superb season and congratulate them on capturing the 2023 Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Robert Roach and Coach Jamie Newsome of Palmetto High School.
