A house RESOLUTION

 

To recognize and honor Mrs. Jane Wanjiru Mwangi, President of the Baptist WomEn's Union of Africa and Vice President of the baptist World Alliance Women's Department, for her extraordinary work and to welcome her to the state of south carolina.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to welcome Mrs. Jane Wanjiru Mwangi to the State of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Mwangi has previously served as the women's leader at Kahawa West Baptist Church in Nairobi, Kenya, as president of the Women's Baptist Convention of Kenya, and as president of the East Africa Women's Union. In 2023, she was elected as president of the Baptist Women's Union of Africa; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Mwangi has traveled all over the continent of Africa, leading and meeting other Baptist women to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her travels continue as she visits the United States of America to be a presenter and receiver at the International Women's Conference held at the United Nations in New York City, New York; and

 

Whereas, the International Women's Conference is a time to honor the contributions of women of all backgrounds. History makers and barrier breakers such as Mrs. Mwangi are recognized at the event for the impact they have had on the world. During Women's History month, it is important to remember those who paved the way in the struggle for gender equity and for social, economic, cultural, and political achievements; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Mwangi also travels to South Carolina to meet with organizations and friends in Columbia who have supported missions in Kenya for more than twenty-five years. She comes with invitations from missionary Jessie Chandler, past president of the Gethsemane Woman's Auxiliary; from church family at Zion Canaan Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Miller; and from the current President of the Gethsemane Woman's Auxiliary, Mrs. Loureatha Pittman, and her cabinet; and

 

Whereas, outside of her work, Mrs. Mwangi is the widow of the late Deacon Anthony Mwangi at Kahawa West Baptist Church. She has four children and five grandchildren and is known to always be celebrating the work of women in Africa while acknowledging their many challenges; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing Mrs. Jane Wanjiru this Women's History Month for her continuous efforts to empower women and welcome her to the State of South Carolina with open arms. Her favorite bible verse is John 15:16. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mrs. Jane Wanjiru Mwangi, president of the Baptist Women's Union of Africa and Vice President of the Baptist World Alliance Women's Department, for her extraordinary work and welcome her to the State of South Carolina.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Jane Wanjiru Mwangi.
