A senate RESOLUTION

TO HONOR CANCER PATIENTS, SURVIVORS, AND THEIR FAMILIES, to REMEMBer THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN LOST TO CANCER, AND to RECOGNIZE January 24, 2024, AS "SUITS AND SNEAKERS DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Suits and Sneakers is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network leveraging the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs; and

Whereas, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network empowers advocates across the State to make their voices heard and influence evidence-based public policy change that will reduce the cancer burden on our State; and

Whereas, it is estimated that more than thirty-three thousand South Carolinians will be diagnosed with cancer in 2024; and

Whereas, cancer patients face countless challenges associated with their diagnoses, including physical, emotional, financial, and day-to-day challenges; and

Whereas, as South Carolina continues to navigate tough legislation, it is more important than ever to support efforts to combat cancer; and

Whereas, not only will effective policies to prevent, detect, and treat cancer save countless lives, but they will significantly reduce the financial strain that this disease places on South Carolinians and our great State; and

Whereas, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network would like to recognize all cancer survivors, caregivers, and advocates.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor cancer patients, survivors, their families, remember those who have been lost to cancer, and recognize January 24, 2024 as "Suits and Sneakers Day" in South Carolina.
