Overview of South Carolina Code of Laws

Once a bill has passed both the House and Senate, it is enrolled for ratification, assigned a ratification number and sent to the Governor to be signed. Once the bill has been signed by the Governor, it is assigned an Act number and becomes law, pending the terms of the effective date of the Act. The Act is then incorporated into the South Carolina Code of Laws and in late December or early January of each year the South Carolina Code of Laws is updated on the South Carolina Legislature Online website.

The Code of Laws files are available in HTML and Word format and may also be accessed via a searchable database.
