A concurrent RESOLUTION

 

To recognize and honor Coach David Smith of Greer Middle College Charter High School for being named 2023 Cross Country Coach of the Year for both the SOuth Carolina Track and Cross Counrty COACHES ASSOCIATION and the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

 

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate Coach David Smith of Greer Middle College Charter High School for his excellent coaching that has fruited him a spectacular season, and for being named 2023 Cross Country Coach of the Year for both the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association and the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association; and

 

Whereas, Coach Smith has forty-two years of coaching experience, thirty-four of those years being in the State of South Carolina. His career has been as extensive as it has been impressive; Coach Smith has coached at JL Mann, Greer, Hillcrest, Blue Ridge, Wahalla, and says he saved the best for last at Greer Middle College Charter High School; and

 

Whereas, at Greer Middle College Charter High School, Coach Smith has coached all six of the boys cross country state championships, three girls state championships, and two track and field boys state championships. He has also collected numerous state championship rings from former schools as a coach of football, wrestling, track, and cross country; and

 

Whereas, grateful for his many years of unparallelled dedication to the athletes he coaches, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great pleasure in honoring his many achievements. Coach Smith is truly worthy of all the awards and acclamations he has received. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

 

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Coach David Smith of Greer Middle College Charter High School for being named 2023 Cross Country Coach of the Year for both the South Carolina Track and Cross County Coaches Association and the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach David Smith.
