Local Expenditure

This bill includes licensed paramedics with at least three years of experience as one of the additional qualifications a coroner must meet.  RFA surveyed all forty-six counties and the MASC and received responses from four counties and the MASC.  Aiken, Dorchester, and Chesterfield Counties and the MASC indicate that the bill will have no expenditure impact. Charleston County indicates that the bill could increase expenses but could not quantify the cost. However, we have contacted Charleston County for clarification and will update this impact statement if additional information is provided.

A bill

 

TO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY AMENDING SECTION 17-5-130, RELATING TO CORONER QUALIFICATIONS, SO AS TO INCLUDE LICENSED PARAMEDICS WITH AT LEAST THREE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS ONE OF THE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS A CORONER MUST HAVE.

 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

 

SECTION 1.  Section 17-5-130(A)(2) of the S.C. Code is amended by adding subitem (h) to read:

 

           (h) have at least three years of experience as a licensed paramedic.

 

SECTION 2.  This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
