A house RESOLUTION

to recognize and honor Ashley Boone, Jillian White, Jessica Moss, Lexie Benardot, and Joe Casagranda, all teachers in Cainhoy-area schools, and to congratulate these five teachers from the Berkeley County School District who were named 2023 Teachers of the Year in their Schools.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is deeply grateful for the dedication of excellent educators who bring out the best in their students and prepare them for the future.  Teachers of the Year enjoy a special recognition in that they are chosen for the honor by their teaching colleagues; and

Whereas, Ashley Boone, a fourth-grade teacher at Daniel Island School, wanted to be a teacher from a young age because she felt God had blessed her with this talent, and she has been teaching for seventeen years, ten of them at Daniel Island School.  She encourages her students to love learning by filling her classroom with joy and a lot of learning which gives the students excitement about coming to school everyday; and

Whereas, Jillian White, a first-grade teacher at Cainhoy Elementary School, decided to become a teacher as a senior in high school after taking a course where she worked in a fourth-grade classroom, helping students with reading and math.  She has been teaching for eight years and still marvels as she watches students learn and succeed.  She strives to treat each student as an individual so that each is encouraged to grow physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally; and

Whereas, Jessica Moss, an art teacher at Philip Simmons Elementary School, was inspired to become an educator by the teachers and professors in her life.  Now in her twelfth year as a public school instructor, she finds joy in her students' accomplishments and seeks to create lessons that are process driven rather than product driven and to teach students to be confident, lifelong learners and to provide them with skills to help them grow; and

Whereas, Lexie Benardot, a teacher at Philip Simmons Middle School, has been teaching for over seventeen years.  She uses music in her classroom to help her students enjoy learning.  As the Renaissance Program coordinator for her school, she helps students become leaders by setting high expectations for academic success while allowing them to have a voice and choice with how to plan and execute parties and rallies that celebrate student accomplishments; and

Whereas, Joe Casagranda, a math teacher at Philip Simmons High School, is in the middle of his fourth year of teaching at Philip Simmons and believes the goal of education is to help build self-confidence.  He always loved to learn, so teaching was a natural fit for him, and as a teacher, he strives to instill students with a positive attitude, patience, and a love for math.  He enjoys building a positive rapport with his students and spends time outside of class helping with the choral and theater departments; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the work of dedicated educators in the Palmetto State, like Ashley Boone, Jillian White, Jessica Moss, Lexie Benardot, and Joe Casagranda, who devote themselves to our youth by helping them to prepare to become productive citizens.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Ashley Boone, Jillian White, Jessica Moss, Lexie Benardot, and Joe Casagranda, all teachers in Cainhoy-area schools, and congratulate these five teachers from the Berkeley County School District who were named 2023 Teachers of the Year in their schools.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ashley Boone, Jillian White, Jessica Moss, Lexie Benardot, and Joe Casagranda.
