The committee on House Invitations and Memorial Resolutions

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4833) to request the Department of Transportation place appropriate markers or signs at the state-maintained road entrances to the Town of Slater-Marrietta in Greenville, etc., respectfully

Report:

DENNIS MOSS for Committee.

________

A concurrent RESOLUTION

to request the department of transportation place appropriate markers or signs at the state-maintained road entrances to the town of slater-marrietta in greenville county containing the words "home of the slater-marietta high school green wave five-time south carolina boys state basketball champions: 1953, 1962, 1964, 1966, and 1971".

Whereas, from 1935 to 1950, Slater-Marietta High School met in various locations. The permanent high school was built in 1951. Its gymnasium had the first regulation size basketball court in Greenville County; and

Whereas, Slater-Marietta High School's five state championships and two state runner-up boys basketball teams in the short history of the school is one of the top accomplishments in South Carolina High School sports history; and

Whereas, Slater-Marietta High School closed in 1973. In 1974, the school merged with Travelers Rest High School; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to recognize the Slater-Marietta High School Boys Basketball Team's five state championships by having appropriate markers or signs containing their accomplishments placed at the town's highway entrances. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation place appropriate markers or signs at the state-maintained road entrances to the Town of Slater-Marrietta in Greenville County containing the words "Home of the Slater-Marietta High School Green Wave Five-Time South Carolina Boys Basketball State Champions: 1953, 1962, 1964, 1966, and 1971".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Department of Transportation.
