Amend the bill, as and if amended, SECTION 1, by striking Section 23-11-110(A)(2) and inserting:

be a legal resident of the county
state in which he seeks the office of
sheriff for at least one year immediately preceding the
date of the election for sheriff;

Amend the bill further, SECTION 1, by striking Section 23-11-110(A)(5) and inserting:
/ (5) have:
(a)
obtained a high school diploma, its recognized equivalent
in educational training as established by the State Department
of Education, and have at least five years experience as a
Class 1 certified law enforcement officer; or
(b)
obtained a two-year associate degree and three years
experience as a Class 1 certified law enforcement
officer; or
(c)
obtained a four-year baccalaureate degree and one
years year experience as a Class
1 certified law enforcement officer; or
(d)
served as a summary court judge for at least ten
years obtained a law degree and, within six months
of being elected, obtain certification as a Class I certified
law enforcement officer.
For purposes of this section, a 'Class
1 certified law enforcement officer' is a person who has
been issued a certificate as a Class 1 law enforcement
officer pursuant to Section 23-23-10 by the
South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council. A sheriff
holding office on the effective date of this section is not
required to have obtained the necessary experience as a
certified law enforcement officer in the State;
