Senator FANNING proposed the following amendment (WAB\419C059.SM.WAB20):

Amend the bill, as and if amended, Section 59-29-250(C)(1), as contained in SECTION 3.A., by adding an appropriately numbered item after (C)(1) to read:

/ ( ) determine if there are sufficient numbers of qualified educators statewide available for local schools and districts to hire to teach these new required courses. If this State is experiencing a teacher shortage that year and there are not a sufficient number of qualified teachers, then the State Department of Education shall, before December thirty-first, waive the requirements of this section for the upcoming year; /
