Rep. BAMBERG proposes the following Amendment No. to S. 200 (COUNCIL\AHB\200C002.BH.AHB21):

Amend the bill, as and if amended, by striking all after the enacting words and inserting:

/SECTION1. Article 5, Chapter 3, Title 24 of the 1976 Code is repealed.

SECTION2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies retroactively to persons convicted and sentenced to death pursuant to Section 16-3-20, or any other provision of law, and upon approval by the Governor the death penalty in this State is abolished. Persons sentenced to death before the effective date of this act must have their sentence commuted to life imprisonment as defined in Section 16-3-20. /
