 SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF THOMAS JOSEPH BARDIN, JR.,
 OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATIVE AUDIT COUNCIL,
 AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF THOMAS JOSEPH BARDIN, JR., OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATIVE AUDIT COUNCIL, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Thomas Joseph Bardin, Jr., of Lexington County on August 27, 2011; and

Whereas, born in Beaufort to Thomas Joseph, Sr., and Eloise Webb Bardin, Tom Bardin, Jr., had resided in the Midlands of South Carolina since his college days; and

Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, he earned his bachelor's and master of public administration degrees at the University of South Carolina. After his graduation in December 1978, he was employed at the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council as an associate auditor. Until 1997, he worked at the Legislative Audit Council, where he rose through the ranks to become a senior audit manager. During this time, he also served on the executive board of the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society of the National Conference of State Legislatures; and

Whereas, in 1997, Mr. Bardin became the head of the South Carolina Department of Social Services Division of Program Assessment. He was later promoted to director of planning and quality assessment at the same agency. In January 2009, Mr. Bardin was appointed to serve as the Director of the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council, a position he held with distinction until his death; and

Whereas, as a man of faith, Tom Bardin was a charter member of Chapin Presbyterian Church. Before Chapin Presbyterian Church was organized, he was a member of Dutch Fork Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, elder, deacon, and treasurer; and

Whereas, he loved his family dearly and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, especially on the water. He swam daily and took pleasure in riding around Lake Murray in a pontoon or paddleboat with his wife and two dogs. An avid runner, he ran at least five miles daily for more than thirty years. He relished working in his yard and home; and

Whereas, Tom Bardin leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Angie Dixon Bardin; his mother, Eloise Webb Bardin; a son, Thomas Joseph "Tripp" Bardin III; a daughter, Jill Bardin Christmus; and a host of other family members and friends. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Thomas Joseph Bardin, Jr., of Lexington County, Director of the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Angie Dixon Bardin for the family.
