 SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE HAD A PARENT KILLED
 DURING ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE SINCE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.

TO COMMEND THE MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR THEIR CONDUCT AND SPONSORSHIP OF THE 2014 MOTORCYCLE BENEFIT RIDE, WHICH WAS HELD ON APRIL 26 AND 27, 2014, WHICH EACH YEAR RAISES SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE HAD A PARENT KILLED DURING ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE SINCE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.

Whereas, the American Legion Riders of South Carolina conducted their 2014 Motorcycle Benefit Ride for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund on April 26 and 27, 2014; and

Whereas, the six hundred mile statewide run involved the eleven American Legion Rider chapters throughout the State and the State American Legion Office raised money for the scholarship fund through pledges made for every mile a rider completed; and

Whereas, the American Legion Legacy Scholarship provides scholarships to children who have had a parent killed during active military service since September 11, 2001; and

Whereas, last year, $60,000 was raised through the South Carolina Legacy Run. The South Carolina 2014 State Run collected proceeds to contribute to the 2014 national Legacy Run scheduled for August 17-21, 2014; and

Whereas, one hundred percent of the funds raised will be carried by representatives of the American Legion Riders of South Carolina to the national ride. No administrative costs are associated with this event; and

Whereas, the members of the American Legion Riders of South Carolina deserve great credit and thanks for sponsoring this benefit run and for supporting this very important scholarship fund for children of our fallen heroes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the members of the American Legion Riders of South Carolina for their conduct and sponsoring of the 2014 Motorcycle Benefit Ride which was held on April 26 and 27, 2014, which each year raises substantial funds for scholarships for children who have had a parent killed during active military service since September 11, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the American Legion Riders of South Carolina.
