AN ACT TO REAPPORTION THE DEFINED SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF BEAUFORT COUNTY ARE ELECTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Election districts in Beaufort County Council reapportioned

Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law, commencing with the 1982 general election, the four single-member election districts in Beaufort County shall be reapportioned as follows:

Residency requirements

Section 2. The governing body of Beaufort County shall consist of nine members as follows: three members shall be residents of and elected by the qualified electors of Beaufort District; one member shall be a resident of and elected by the qualified electors of Hilton Head Island District; one member shall be a resident of and elected by the qualified electors of PreviousSt. Helena District; one member shall be a resident of and elected by the qualified electors of Sheldon District; and the remaining three members of the governing body shall be elected from the county at large.

Time effective

Section 3. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
